I've completed the rim on my 00-20something 12-fretter deep body and am working on the back plate. The back and sides are EIR and the top is Lutz. This is from a less well serviced kit from John Hall with very nice wood and is my stepping stone to a scratch build with the next one.
I'v used a tip from Hesh about flattening the upper bout on the top after final profiling of the rim and linings. This is my first build with a decorative back strip and I was a bit apprehensive about dealing with two joints rather than one.
I joined the edges with an old Stanley No. 5 that had spent an afternoon with a Veritas Mk II honing guide. I was pleasently amazed with the results and have a close up after sanding to 220. Sharp planes are really cool tools!
